Topics We’re Exploring

Literacy leaders continue to explore research, share promising practices, and collaborate on common challenges. You can find some of the topics and resources leaders are exploring together this year below.

Writing

We’re learning so much about reading research, but what does the research say about effective writing instruction? How are decoding and encoding linked and what evidence-based practices should be incorporated into classroom instruction?

Multilingual Learners

We know that structured literacy instruction is beneficial for all students. What additional strategies should be incorporated to support multilingual learners in learning to read English? How can we ensure that there is coherence among instructional strategies and teachers take an asset-based approach?

Resources we're exploring:

  • Instruction Partners’ "Supporting Early Literacy for Multilingual Learners" resource hub
  • "How Reading Science works for English Learners" with Dr. Elsa Cardenas-Hagen podcast
